Real J Brides from 2014

We LOVE receiving wedding photos from all of our lovely J Brides!! We are so honored to be part of the wedding planning process and truly enjoying seeing their BIG day come to fruition! Here are some photos that we have received from our J Brides in 2014...

J Bridal graces the pages of the Spring 2015 Tucson Bride & Groom Magazine!

We ALWAYS have a blast at photo shoots! Not only do we thoroughly enjoying meeting and working with Tucson's finest wedding vendors, but we equally LOVE seeing how gorgeous the photos turn out! In the latest 2015 Winter/Spring Tucson Bride & Groom Magazine we had the honor of being part of 2 fabulous shoots that grace the pages of this issue. Both styled shoots featured Tucson's elite wedding vendors.

Here are some of the images showcasing J Bridal gowns that can be seen in the magazine!

We are on the cover of Tucson Bride & Groom Magazine!!!

When we were first contacted for a gown from J Bridal Boutique to be featured on the cover, after being in business for not even two months, we were ecstatic (to say the very LEAST)!! Not many new, small businesses get such a grandiose opportunity before they have made a name for themselves. Not only were we excited about being on the cover, but when we heard the genius concept of romance and royalty for the shoot we knew this was our time to shine!

It was now time to start the search for the gown that will showcase J Bridal, drop jaws, photograph beautifully AND reflect the latest bridal trends... a daunting task! We have so many gorgeous gowns, but finding "the ONE" made us feel like a bride shopping for a dress for her big day; one worthy of saying YES to, that she will look at photos of for the rest of her life! To add on to that stress, the model bride would not be trying it on until just hours before the photo shoot. We definitely felt the pressure to keep up the the fabulosity of the past cover issues (even though we knew the other Elite vendors would help make us look good, no matter what!). Once we found several gowns that would be fit for a princess, we gathered all of our finest jewelry and accessories to best compliment the gowns.

The day had finally arrived!  The weather was gorgeous and the scenery at The Highlands at Dove Mountain was even more beautiful! It was an amazing day full of surprises. We learned that you never know what to expect on shooting day, BUT the obstacles and challenges are what make the photo shoot so fabulous (just like every wedding day has its challenges)! Each vendor is tested to showcase their true talents and artistry. We learned the trick to pull off such a stunning cover... working together as a team! We had a BLAST shooting and thoroughly enjoyed working with all of the amazing wedding vendors!  We owe a HUGE thank you to Tucson Bride & Groom for allowing us to be a small part of this fantastic shoot!

{RACKEL-MENDATIONS} The Dress

You’ve found the one.  Now it’s time to find a wedding dress that will take everyone’s breath away.  It’s out there, waiting for you!

Your dress is as individual as you are, and it makes a statement about your style and personality.  Choosing the right gown can be overwhelming, but if you give yourself time, and have a good strategy, you will have great success.  Here are some key points to help you get started.

First, narrow your search by trying gowns on to determine the best shape and style for your body type.  Whether it may be an A-line, trumpet, mermaid, ball gown, tiered skirt, basque, or silhouette, you need to see the gown on to ensure it is flattering to your body.  Make an appointment with a bridal salon like J Bridal, who has multiple designers and styles. Bring in any photos of dresses you have seen in magazines or on line so that the salon can match the same type of dress for you to try on. Once you have the gown on, your will know immediately if it is the dress of your dreams.

It is important not to get too overwhelmed on your first few salon appointments, so take only one or two trusted family members or friends to help take notes on the gowns you like best.  All too often, too many opinions can lead to disaster, and your dress shopping can seem hopeless.  Remember this is about you!  You can narrow your search down to the final one, and plan a “reveal” party at the salon to make it special for your bridesmaids and mother of the bride.

Another crucial component is the color of the dress.  Do you look best in white or ivory?  Choose the color that enhances your skin tone.  Also play with different fabrics like lace, chiffon, silk, satin, along with different textures, drape, and cut.  On one of my dress shopping trips to New York, I was able to meet several couture designers, who gave me some great tips for matching the perfect dress for different body types.  Here are just a few to share:

  • Want to look long and lean?  Stay away from ball gowns, and choose a silhouette.
  • Fit-and-flare gowns won’t drown petite shapes, and are great for accentuating hourglass curves.
  • A-line gowns minimize your hips and shrink your waist.
  • Side draping and lightweight fabrics are romantic and slimming.
  • The key to creating curves is to choose gowns that have flared skirts, diagonal draping, and daring necklines.

Almost all gowns take a minimum of 6 months to arrive after ordering, and will have alterations to follow.  Give yourself as much time as possible to avoid any stress.  Once your gown arrives, it will most likely need alterations, especially the bustle if you have a train.  As a seasoned wedding planner, I have sewn more dresses than I can count because the bustle wasn’t added, or something came undone on the dress.  It is so important to go over the dress in its entirety at your final fitting to ensure that everything is perfect.  Make sure to review how to bustle the dress with your bridal consultant, and if you are a client of Rackel Gehlsen Weddings & Events, we take care of all of this for you!

{Rackel-mendations} Choosing your perfect "Dream Team"

Vendors, Vendors, Vendors!

You’re engaged and planning for your perfect day!  Maybe you have seen a general 12-month timeline of how to plan your wedding and what steps to take.  Well, the industry is changing, and those timelines are outdated.  The first thing I prioritize with a new client is securing their wedding “dream team” to ensure their wedding is exactly the way they envision it to be.

There can be 20 other couples getting married on the same day in the same area, so the sooner you can establish your wedding date, the better you will be in selecting the perfect group of wedding professionals.  These experts get booked sometimes 18 months in advance, especially in peak months of the season, so what the magazine timeline says, isn’t reality after all.  This can lead to a lot of frustration, and possibly even to tears.  We can’t let this happen!  It’s your wedding and the experts want it to be the very best it can be!

As I mentioned in my previous article, choosing your location is key.  Choosing your venue sets the scene of your wedding.  The bridal gown essentially has a lot to do with the style of the wedding, and it does take some time finding “the dress” as it did in finding your fiancé, who will be your forever love.  At the very same time that you are establishing the venue for your wedding, you should be interviewing your planner, photographer, videographer, musicians for ceremony and reception, DJ service, officiate/minister, florist, cake, hair and make up team, transportation, and hotel accommodations for your guests.  If your ceremony location is different from the reception venue, it is important to secure both and coordinate the start times so you know what the transition time from one location to the other will be.

This is an investment of your time, but well worth the outcome.  It will also give you a good perspective of how much time you have to research, and if you need some well experienced assistance.  A wedding planner can easily cut this time and effort down to a fraction and help you enjoy every minute of the planning.  And then you are off to designing the perfect Save-the Date to let your friends and family know the celebration is on!
